To enhance the capabilities of Sri Lanka’s Health Care system by providing a large quantity of safe blood to the national blood bank annually
To donate the maximum healthy amount of safe blood annually to the National Blood Bank thus continuing the legacy of the Royal College Blood Donation Campaign.
We the Royal College Red Cross Society successfully conducted 6 different campaigns in 6 diverse venues across the contry donating more than 500 pints to the National Blood Bank of Sri Lanka, in order to assist the shortage of bloody supply within the country. We spread awareness through our publicity campaigns, on social media, radio channels, tv channels and other postes that donating blood is possible during these times. By donating clinically safe blood we were able to assist the Sri Lankan health care system as a whole.
The 44th Annual Blood Donation Campaign, organized by the Royal College Red Cross Society, made a significant impact on the healthcare system of Sri Lanka. Spanning across 6 diverse venues, this year's campaign was an impressive turnout with over 500 donors, collectively contributing to the National Blood Bank and playing a crucial role in saving lives.
The venues at which blood donation campaigns were conducted are as follows:
The campaign kicked off at the District General Hospital in Hambantota, witnessing an enthusiastic participation of 85 donors, setting a promising tone for the subsequent phases.
The phase directors for the Hambantota Blood Donation Campaign phase were the Red Cross Society Student Coordinator - Methul Kahandugoda & Hansaja Abeykoon.
Together along with the Blood Donation Campaign committee we were able to successfully complete the 1st phase of the campaign at the Southern province in Sri Lanka.
Moving to Ottamavadi, Batticaloa, the campaign continued to garner support with 80 donors actively participating in the noble cause.
The phase director for the 2nd phase of our initiative was the Red Cross Society First Aid Coordinator - Luqmaan Ahmed.
The project committee travelled 300km across Sri Lanka all the way to the Ottamavadi, a small village in the Eastern Province to help the Batticaloa Blood Bank with gaining more blood into their blood system, as the blood quantity in their blood banks had been relatively low. We as the Red Cross Society were able to attract 80+ potential donors to the event, donating 80 pints to the blood system.
Anuradhapura witnessed a remarkable turnout of 101 donors at the Padaviya Base Hospital, making a substantial contribution to the blood bank.
Right after a successful campaign in Batticaloa, our next camp was set up in a historical location in the North Central province of Sri Lanka, Padaviya, Anuradhapura. This phase was directed by Yasitha Adikaramge and was done by the Grade 11 batch of the Red Cross Society.
This phase saw a record breaking turnout of over 100 donors attending, marking the first blood donation campaign by the Royal College Red Cross Society to surpass 100 donors.
The campaign continued its journey to Kandy, where 104 donors at Mahamaya Girls College demonstrated the community's commitment to this life-saving initiative.
2 days after the camp at Anuradhapura our next location was the Central hills of Sri Lanka, Kandy. Joining hands with the Interact Club of Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy, we were able to host our 4th blood donation campaign of the year in the central province.
M.B.D.Said Ali was the phase director of this phase of the project, Kandy Blood Donation Phase marked the highest number of blood donors in this years campaign, Surpassing 100 donors.
This was also the 2nd largest blood donation campaign organized in the Kandy district in the year 2023, as reported by the Kandy Blood Bank.
The fifth phase was hosted at the Narahenpita Blood Bank, aiming to make a substantial impact on the blood reserves.
This was the first Blood Donation we did in the Colombo district in the year 2023, The phase director was Kithmaka Weerasooriya.
Thanks to their efforts, the Narahenpita Blood Bank was able to collect a significant amount of blood, which would go on to save many lives. We are grateful for the support of the community in making the event a success.
As the fifth phase came to a close, Kithmaka began planning for the next blood donation drive. He knew that the need for blood donations would continue, and he was determined to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
The sixth and final phase of the 44th Annual Blood Donation Campaign was hosted at Royal College, Colombo 07. Targeting the School administration and Parents of young Royalists.
The phase was directed by Thenuk Dayaratne, and over 85 potential blood donors contributed to this cause voluntarily. Including Academic staff, non academic staff, parents, students (above 18 years of age) and a few more civilians around colombo also contributed.
The campaign concluded at Royal College in Colombo 07, symbolizing the culmination of efforts and community support. The 44th edition of this historic project successfully concluded at Reid Avenue on the 3rd of November 2023.
