Our mission is to promote eye donation and enhance eye care in Sri Lanka, ensuring a future where preventable blindness is minimized, and quality healthcare is accessible to all.
Our vision is a Sri Lanka where avoidable blindness is rare, and the act of eye donation is a societal norm, fostering a compassionate and healthier community.
In the first phase, we organized an extensive eye check-up campaign in the West Wing lobby of Royal College. This campaign was designed to reach and benefit the administration, workers, and students of the school. The eye check-up was conducted by a team of highly trained doctors from the National Eye Hospital of Sri Lanka. They performed a thorough examination, which included vision tests to determine visual acuity and identify refractive errors. Eye health assessments were carried out to detect issues like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and other ocular conditions. Additionally, the doctors used specialized equipment to examine the retina, cornea, and other eye structures.
In the second phase, we conducted an eye donation program in collaboration with the National Eye Bank of Sri Lanka. The primary objective of this phase was to create awareness about the significance of eye donation and establish a network of registered donors. Registration Drive : - process for individuals interested in pledging their eyes for donation. This enabled them to express their intent to donate their corneas after their lifetime, contributing to the cause of preventing avoidable blindness. We hoped to Engage the school community and surrounding areas in the eye donation program, fostering a culture of compassion and empathy towards individuals with vision impairments. This community involvement ensured a more widespread and sustainable impact.
This comprehensive three-phase project not only delivered immediate healthcare services but also actively worked toward a long-term goal of reducing avoidable blindness in Sri Lanka. It fostered a culture of eye donation and supported the development of a sustainable eye care network.
Following the eye check-up and eye donation campaign, we will proceed to the third phase of the project. This phase aims to provide targeted support to individuals identified with eye health issues. Free Cataract Surgeries - Patients diagnosed with cataracts, a condition characterized by clouded lenses that cause vision impairment, will be offered free cataract surgeries. These surgeries involve the removal of the clouded lens and the insertion of an artificial intraocular lens. This procedure can significantly improve vision and quality of life.
Medication Support - Individuals diagnosed with other eye conditions or issues, such as conjunctivitis, dry eye syndrome, or age-related macular degeneration, will receive appropriate medications and treatment plans tailored to their specific eye health concerns. This support ensures that all identified issues are addressed effectively.
